Sexuality is being sexual, being able to experience sexual intercourse and express themselves as sexual human beings.
In todays day and age, majority young people are growing up so fast and they are desperate to partake in sexual intercourse with people they know or strangers. Because of the media and what it portrays about sex, young people are so quick to have sexual intercourse without knowing what harm it could cause such as diseases or viruses. 62% of teenagers are having sexual intercourse underage. However, although kids these days are having sex at a young age, some kids involve the use of contraception to prevent babies and sexual diseases. When young people are having sexual intercourse some do not inform their parents because they are underage. Furthermore, some young people ignore the use of contraception which creates a high risk of pregnancies or sexual diseases . Because of this, 13-17 year olds are raising their own children. The media displays examples of how young women have to raise their child . Examples of this is shown in TV shows such as Teen Mom and 16 and pregnant. Movies are also responsible for exposing sexuality. An example of this is shown in a film called American Pie. American Pie is a teen based drama/comedy which shows teenagers exploring sexuality and having relationships at the ages of 13-17. It is based on four boys who make a deal to lose their virginity before graduation. Films like American Pie can be easily watched on the internet and young people are exposed to sexual content.
Pornography is another key feature in sexuality. Porn is easily accessible by young people as there are hardly and restrictions. Statistics show that 70% of young people are able to access pornography at school. Also 46% of young people are sending sexual or naked photos to friends.
In this video, we see a young girl who wants to partake in sexual intercourse with a boy. Bella took it upon herself to seek contraception before getting involved in sexual activity with her boyfriend. In the video, Bella is of age to receive contraception to prevent herself getting pregnant. The clinical
adviser informs Bella about contraception and sexual health. She also informs her that she will have to tell a parent/guardian if there is a close risk when having intercourse. Knowing that Bella can get contraception at this age without her parents knowing may influence young people to do the same thing as there are no consequences.
