Summary

Luther is a psychological crime drama television series that was set on BBC one in the UK. The first episode first aired on the 4th of May 2010. Idris Elba plays a DCI John Luthor who returns to a duty serveral months after a breakdown because of the capture of the murderer named Henry Madsen. Luthor solves a double homicide.

Characters

Luther is the protagonist of the TV series. He is a talented detective and he has the ability to analyse problems and situations rapidly. He is able to do put his self in the criminals position to understand the criminal mind set and how they can be caught.

The starting scene of Luther starts of in the centre of action. the use of this type of music is sinister and tell us that something is going to happen, making it tense for the audience. Furthermore, the camera is quick pace and there are multiple camera cuts. This creates tension as the audience might have a clear answer on whats going to happen.

Luther is the protangoist of the TV show. His role is a DCI (Detective Chief Inspector). the audience can clearly identify this as what he has been through and done in the first episode. Luther is a workaholic and he lives in a mental home which is seen in a long shot. This creates sympathy and makes the audience feel sorry for him. Luther deals with stress, anger outbursts and is seen as tough when engaging in work and situations. However, we can see his loving and sensitive side when he is around his family. The close ups of his family issues shows that he has emotions and feelings.
